Visiting the Smoky Mountains: Venturing Out from Our North Georgia Property

When you live near the Great Smoky Mountains, just a couple hours away from our North Georgia property for sale, it’s very much worth a trip to this famously stunning national park, especially in the autumn.

The park, which is open 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, offers a variety of campgrounds to suit your needs and fun, family-friendly recreation. I encourage my friends to visit during the fall season, during which the mountains change from green to a beautiful array of fall colors. This period lasts several weeks, too, so you’ll have a good chance of catching it if you visit in the fall, especially toward the end of October.

Autumn is a popular time to visit the Great Smoky Mountains, so you’ll have lots of company, which means there will be some traffic along the roads. I recommend taking a scenic hike along some suggested autumn paths. What a great opportunity to get some exercise and enjoy the breathtaking beauty of the Smokies.

So this fall when you see our mountain property for sale, which you can see at anytime, look into some camping or hiking in Great Smoky Mountains National Park. You won’t be disappointed! Schedule an appointment to see our North Georgia property today:

Visiting Asheville near Our Georgia Mountain Property for Sale

Our Georgia mountain property for sale is well-located near several major cities, which I’ve written quite a lot about, such as Nashville and Atlanta in particular. There’s a vibrant city that is a little less known than these others, but it’s only 100 miles away from our North Georgia mountain property for sale. The city is none other than Asheville, North Carolina. If you haven’t had the pleasure of visiting this thriving, activity-filled, and culturally rich city, you must check it out.

We typically go up for the weekend to Asheville from our mountain property for sale. I can get there in less than two hours, making it a great destination for a day trip, but why spend only one day there if you can spend two or even three days?

According to Frommer’s, the Asheville area is a must-see spot. It’s got everything, I’m telling you: spas, golf, outdoors recreation, historic sites, shopping, and fantastic food. Speaking of the food, the city is actually home to the Foodtopian Society and is well-known throughout the area for its top-notch dining. I had no idea before I visited Asheville that F. Scott Fitzgerald, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison used to reside there. You can even see the largest home in America, George Vanderbilt’s 250-room home known as the Biltmore House.

Fun fact: Asheville has more Art Deco architecture than Miami Beach. Did you know that? I didn’t either before I visited.

So when you come see our Georgia mountain property, which is available for showing at anytime, take at least a day to visit Asheville, see its historic sites, take a walk downtown, and grab a memorable bite to eat. You won’t regret it.

Things to Do in Knoxville near Our Georgia Mountain Property

Our North Georgia mountain property for sale is extremely well-located near several enchanting cities, small and large. Although I love to spend the weekend at our Georgia mountain property, I can’t resist the temptation of running off with family to one of these nearby charming places. Last weekend we visited Knoxville, Tennessee, located 126 miles from our Georgia mountain property, and we had a great time.

After Memphis and Nashville, Knoxville is the third largest city in Tennessee, and it’s located just 35 miles from Great Smoky Mountains National Park, making it a pretty popular destination, especially with families.

It’s got everything you’d want from a larger town, a nice movie theater, convention center, lots of restaurants and bars…Its downtown is getting better and better. The Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame is also located in Knoxville, interestingly enough. If you go camping in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, enjoy at least an afternoon in Knoxville. I bet you’ll like it.

Our Georgia mountain property is available for showing anytime you’d like to see it. Our proximity to Knoxville and many other charming cities is just one of the many great features.

Scenic Drives near Our North Georgia Mountain Property for Sale

Autumn has to be my favorite season at our North Georgia mountain property, or at least that’s what I say to myself every year when the foliage turns to fiery colors and there is a crispness in the air, the holidays just around the corner. In the fall in the North Georgia Mountains, I like to take scenic drives every now and then to take in the autumn mountain setting even better.

My favorite time to go for a scenic drive in the North Georgia mountains is at the end of October when the leaves are changing, and there are many routes I could recommend. My favorites are the Chattahoochee River Road, less than 15 miles long and ending north of Helen, where they have a fantastic Oktoberfest, and Tallulah River Road, which is about the same length of road and goes to the border of North Carolina. You can also go camping along this route. Along both roads you’ll find some great hiking.

But don’t take my word for it! Come visit our North Georgia mountain property for sale and make sure to take a drive around the area this fall. Don’t forget your camera!

Visiting Savannah from Our North Georgia Property

Our North Georgia property for sale is conveniently tucked away in the wilderness of the North Georgia Mountains while also offering a close proximity to some big, beautiful cities. We take a lot of weekend trips to various cities close by and I recently had the pleasure of seeing Savannah with the family. I highly recommend you check out this city as well.

My interest in Savannah was born when I read Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil by John Berendt. I found the architecture and culture of the city incredibly alluring after reading Berendt’s descriptions. I knew I had to see the city myself.

It was more beautiful than I imagined, quaint with a small-town feel while at the same time with a busy feeling just like a big city. The food was excellent. We dined alfresco in a variety of European-syle cafés and in upscale restaurants (the food was excellent), rented bikes and took tours through historic areas and breathtaking neighborhoods, and enjoyed the culture—a musical, art galleries, and museums. I even discovered Savannah has a beach—Tybee Island—where we took a kayak tour and spotted a couple of dolphins.

If you want to enjoy a little Southern charm and hospitality, this is the city for you. Come visit our North Georgia mountain property and spend a weekend in Savannah. It’s a six-hour trip that you won’t regret! Remember, our property is always available to be shown. Hope to see you soon.

Funworld near Our Georgia Mountain Property

I’ve been writing a lot about family attractions near our North Georgia mountain property in big cities like Atlanta and Nashville. These cities are located so close that you can visit them for an activity-filled daytrip or weekend vacation. Today I want spotlight a local family attraction located close to our Georgia mountain property in Fieldstone called Funworld.

The outdoors, offering hiking, boating, swimming, and more, are undoubtedly a great attraction for kids. This makes having a property in the North Georgia Mountains a smart investment for families with kids of all ages. But as busy as your kids will stay outdoors, there’s nothing like a special family trip to a facility built just for kids. Well, Funworld is a spot like that.

When friends and family with young‘uns come visit our Georgia Mountain property, we make sure to visit this place at least once. They’ve got a large variety of rides and attractions, including an obstacle course, parachute ride, and even a place to make your own stuffed animal. There’s also an arcade for videogame lovers. Especially young kids can enjoy a Castle Bounce House and Toddler Town. I personally enjoy the go-carts, miniature gold, and rock climbing! You sure don’t have to be a kid to enjoy yourself at Funworld.

Fall Festivals near Our Georgia Mountain Property for Sale

One of my favorite highlights of having a property in North Georgia is our proximity to a large variety of festivals in the North Georgia region. The fall is my favorite time of year for festivals in the area with the holidays coming up and the nice cooler autumn weather. Here are some of the festivals near our North Georgia property for sale:

Oktoberfest 2011 will be taking place in Helen, Georgia. The Helen Oktoberfest is one of my favorite Oktoberfests; in fact, it’s the longest-running one in the U.S.

The Mule Camp Market Festival in October will be sure to be a family-pleaser. The event will be held in Gainesville, formerly known as Mule Camp Springs, in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. There will be mule rides, arts and crafts, music entertainment, a petting zoo, and more.

The Annual Georgia Apple Festival in October is always a fun time. Admission is very reasonable and children under 10 are free. There are hundreds of vendors selling handcrafted items as well as a parade and antique car show.

Last but not least of my favorite North Georgia mountain festivals is Murrayville’s Hemlockfest, an annual bluegrass/blues/rock festival which raises money to save the Hemlock trees of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The music is great and you’ll also find arts and crafts vendors, delicious food and drinks, and unique entertainment such as puppet artists and fire dancers.

Our mountain property for sale is always available for a showing, so come by this fall and see the area yourself and take advantage of one of the region’s fine festivals while you’re here!

Civil War Heritage Trails near Our Georgia Mountain Property

One of the best things about our North Georgia mountain property, in my opinion, is the proximity to the Civil War Heritage Trails. I’ve written about this before, but I can’t say enough about this special attraction available to visitors to and residents of Georgia.

It’s been said that the Civil War, which raged from 1861 to 1865, had a more significant impact on Georgia than on any other event that has occurred in our state. After all, approximately 11,000 Georgians were killed and 460,000 slaves were emancipated by the end of the war.

I’ve had the pleasure of learning a great deal about the war and how it transpired in the state thanks to the Georgia Civil War Heritage Trails, a non-profit organization that preserves historic trails throughout the state.

There are six different trail regions representing a major event or area of the Civil War, such as the Atlanta Campaign region and the March to the Sea region. You’ll find trail markers along the way connected to national parks, cultural sites, and museums with photographs, drawings, and maps having to do with the Civil War period.

Don’t miss out on this piece of history when you come see our Georgia mountain property for sale, which you can take a look at anytime. Stop on by soon!

Birds at our North Georgia Property for Sale

I’m often asked by visitors about birding opportunities at our Georgia mountain property. The North Georgia Mountains is known to be an incredible habitat for birds, and a tour of our mountain property for sale will give you a glimpse of the excellent birding opportunities in the area.

North Georgia is home to 130 nesting birds. Ornithology in Georgia dates back all the way to the early 1700s with the impressive bird habitats located throughout the state. I don’t consider myself a bird-watcher by any means, but I’m always happy to go along with family and friends around our Georgia mountain property to spot some rare and beautiful species.

There are different groups of birds you can find in the area. Some are permanent residents and the others migrate to our neck of the woods throughout the year. My favorites are the northern cardinal and indigo bunting, always stunning and spritely. You’ll find lots of northern birds living in the North Georgia mountains, as the climate here is similar to that of southern New England.

There are several local birding groups in Georgia. I’ve never met up with any of them before, but I would recommend connecting with them if you enjoy bird watching. When you see our North Georgia mountain property for sale, which is available anytime for showing, spend some time birding and getting to know the amazing array of birds in the area.

Hiking Tips around Our Georgia Mountain Property

I do a lot of hiking around our North Georgia Mountain property. That’s no surprise, as this area is a hiker’s paradise. Whether you’re new to hiking or are able to hike very difficult terrain, there’s no doubt you’ll have a rewarding hiking experience here in the North Georgia Mountains.

It’s hard to pick just one hiking spot to recommend to people, as there are so many great locations, but I suppose I am partial to the stretch of Appalachian Trail nearby.

People often ask me for tips for hiking around our mountain property for sale. Well, to begin with, May through September is the better part of the year for hiking, if you want to avoid cold and snow. (If you decide to hike the trail in late autumn, be careful, for this is hunting season.)

Hiking in the spring and summer can be tough if you’re not prepared for the heat. Don’t forget to bring plenty of water. I recommend drinks with electrolytes but not too much sugar, like Recharge, which you can find in most health food stores. Emergen-C is a great supplement to add to water which can help you hold out in hot weather, and don’t forget salt and potassium. Bring some high-protein snacks along too. Proper nutrition is vital.

When you come see our Georgia mountain property for sale, which is available to be seen anytime, throw in a hiking trip while you’re at it. You won’t be disappointed!
